This is the only entirely etching that is going to be in my BFA show.
It had a mezzotint background, but that plate made the image extremely dark, and I was unhappy with it.
I like the lightness of this final product.
THE IDEA:
so the latest group of work I've been working on has shifted to sea life. I have grown fascinated with the jellyfish of Palau's landocked lakes.
I'm trying to make a cultural statement by juxtaposing open ocean sea life with the jellyfish found trapped in the inland lakes.
open ocean life = the world on an international level
jellyfish = close knit cultural centers that are more local.

Ahh! i know that it looks somewhat different, but this print was just made with two plates. the manta ray is just etched line and an aquatint! I promise that's all it really is.
I guess we can call it a "happy accident"

Great ideas. The red in the manta ray is much more visible here than on your postcard. I love the spottedness you've got here too. Awesome.
and it looks like a few of the jellyfish are trying to keep up with the manta ray. i wonder how long they can keep up.
